Adam is a helicopter engineer living in Derbyshire, he is a husband and father to two sons. In 2015 Adam was diagnosed with a brain tumour, in this article Adam reflects on his journey so far and what’s why he’s fundraising for brainstrust with a year of cycling.
In 2015 Adam was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and subsequently underwent a 9-hour craniotomy. The doctors were not able to remove the entire tumour which meant Adam has had yearly MRIs ever since.
In 2022 Adam and his family were told the tumour had grown, and Adam had to prepare for radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After realising that they needed support to face the challenges they have ahead of them, Adam and his wife, Sue, found brainstrust.
“[brainstrust] have been a Godsend, it’s like having a cup of coffee, and an arm around your shoulder, even though I’ve never met them face to face”
Adam has started fundraising for brainstrust by cycling his marathon commute to work!
“Over the next year or so I will be travelling from Derbyshire to Norwich on the train then cycling a 17-mile round trip from where I stay to work and back with a 12hr shift in between. I work 18 days of the month so that’s around 4000 miles a year cycling!
brainstrust has been an amazing help to me so for me to give something back is a no brainer (no pun intended!)”
We wish Adam the best of luck on his year of cycling, and we are so grateful for his decision to fundraise for us. You can show your support for Adam by visiting his fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/adam-sancaster
