Last month, over 50 extraordinary people took on our annual Run, Row, Ride challenge in support of brainstrust and the brain tumour community. Fueled with sheer passion and determination, from 1st to 30th November, each person dedicated their efforts to honour the 30 people who hear the words ‘you have a brain tumour‘ every day here in the UK.
In a year like no other, we were overwhelmed by the response Run, Row, Ride received. Inspired by their personal experience, or that of a loved one, everyone came together to conquer at least 30 miles in 30 days, and every single person more than rose to the challenge.
Together #teambrainstrust covered over 2,500 miles in November. Their hard work and phenomenal fundraising efforts combined has raised a team total of over £29,500 and counting!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of sharing many personal stories of those who took part in Run, Row, Ride. People like Nicci and Tom, whose son, Noah, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour. Whilst talking about Noah’s diagnosis, Nicci said:
“When everything was happening so fast, we didn’t really have time to process anything. The worst part of this entire journey so far was waiting for Noah’s biopsy results. The waiting is so difficult, so when we were aware that not much would be happening in November, and we saw the challenge, we jumped at the chance to give something back to brainstrust. The challenge has given us so much positivity, from firstly seeing the wonderful messages of support we as a family have had. So many people have reached out to us, it has made the darkest of days a little easier knowing we have so much love behind us. Secondly, the daily exercise has allowed us all time to look after our mental well-being. We all feel much stronger to face Noah’s mountain.”
We’ve been inspired by each and every person who took on this incredible challenge. We’re proud to have witnessed their triumphant success, and we’re grateful to their friends and family for their outpouring of generosity and support.
The total raised throughout Run, Row, Ride 2020 could fund the cost of over 700 brain boxes – that’s an entire year’s supply of our ‘must have’ support toolkit for people with a new brain tumour diagnosis and their carers. Below, a carer describes her reaction to receiving the crucial resources and well deserved treats we include in every brain box:
“I received the brain box yesterday – I cried with happiness. It’s just what we needed – the booklets, information, tea and even hand cream. You have restored our faith in human nature. Thank you.”– Brain tumour carer
As you can see, every brain box we send is invaluable. With enormous thanks to everyone who took part in, and supported, Run, Row, Ride 2020 – your kindness will continue to touch the lives of hundreds of people affected by the devastation a brain tumour diagnosis brings.
