Quite a bit actually. Yes – it may mean more austerity, more responsibility but with that comes opportunity. We like opportunity!
‘With the retreat of the state, it is a chance for more individuals, businesses, charities and communities to take a lead on making a difference, to become the drivers of positive change. It is a time for all these audiences to plan what happens next’
Forster Communications Agency October 2010
And that’s exactly what we are doing.
It’s nice to know that, under the coalition, the NHS has to lose its paternalistic ethos. An ethos that sometimes means Healthcare Professionals can be patronising, and only share half the story with you. In real terms this means that patient outcomes will be driving the NHS agenda and with that comes informed patients. That’s exactly what we are about – supporting our patients and their families so that they have the right information, at the right time, so that they can make right choices about their healthcare and their lives. And this is how it should be.
We have some very exciting plans for patient support in 2011. But we can’t do it with you. Our very strong ethos of ‘we’re none of us as smart as all of us’ sits well with the Big Society. Like it or loathe it, the Big Society is throwing up a Big Question: with people under increased pressure in a slow recovery, just where is this necessary surge in voluntary activity going to come from? You! You are our lifeblood for two reasons – you really push the boat out to support our cause but most importantly you keep us on our toes. We soon know if we are falling short of your expectations and we love our dialogue with you. That’s what sets us apart. And our ideas for 2011 will grow this dialogue, providing more opportunities for us to take a lead on making a difference.
We feel we’re pretty well placed in the New World Order. Let’s get on with it.
