Lazaros Sofikitis passed away in November 2023, just 8 months after he was diagnosed with a grade 4 Glioblastoma.
Among many wonderful qualities, Lazaros was known for being a talented artist who had just commenced a full-time career in his creative passion when he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma aged 32. He was a great lover of nature, having studied forestry at Bangor University, which has been honoured by his resting place in the Brecon Beacons – reflecting his great love of the natural environment.
Admirably, Lazaros’ loved ones raised over £21,000 for his treatment and for cancer research. Of that figure, Lazaros’ family have donated just over £13,000 to support brainstrust’s PRIME (Patient Research Involvement MovEment) service with a specific passion of ensuring GBM research is appropriately supported. This generous donation empowers our service, allowing us to push the standards of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in brain tumour research and contribute to improved outcomes to those diagnosed in the future.
“We’re so grateful to Lazaros. It has been really important to us to make sure that this achieves everything Lazaros desired and his investment in PRIME will make such a difference to everyone with a vested interest in high grade brain tumours.” – Helen Bulbeck, Director of Policy and Services and Co-founder of brainstrust
brainstrust would like to say a huge thank you to Lazaros and his family, and assure that we will do all in our power to see that this donation raises the quality of research, and subsequently the treatment landscape, via our PRIME service.
