Throughout the month of March, Nicole and her partner Leon will be hiking 100 miles to raise funds for the brain tumour community. Nicole was recently diagnosed with a colloid cyst, a rare brain tumour which Nicole knew nothing about, let alone that it existed.
Here’s Nicole’s story:
My story is quite short and sweet. I was in a road traffic accident in November 2023, which led to me getting a trauma CT scan to check for internal bleeding and all that lovely stuff. A radiologist reviewed my CT and found the colloid cyst incidentally. I had an MRI almost 2 weeks ago to get a clearer picture and I am being reviewed every 3 months for any symptoms and any change in myself and the tumour.
I am a very positive person, and this was a huge shock/scare for me and everyone around me, but I knew I wouldn’t want people to worry, and I wanted to spread awareness about a colloid cyst and benign brain tumours and found you guys (brainstrust)! I’m attending the colloid cyst online chat on the 14th March to listen to other people’s stories and share my own. As March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month, I love going for walks/hikes so I am going to try and walk/hike 100 miles in March! My main goal by fundraising is to create that awareness around what a colloid cyst is.
I really like this quote ‘Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness’.
A huge thank you to Nicole and Leon for their incredible support!
