Sue, her brave family, and friends took on the wild waters of the Bristol Channel to support the brain tumour community!
In Sue’s own words;
I decided to do the 2023 Porthcawl Christmas Morning Swim for brainstrust because my sons girlfriends sister had recently been diagnosed with a glioma and my son, his girlfriend Vicci, her sister Michelle and their mum Sue Jones had decided to do the swim.
I have been swimming twice a week for the last year anyway and had been tempted to try cold water swimming particularly because of the publicised health benefits (I suffer with reduced mobility and possible long covid symptoms). I want to share my story as I feel brainstrust needs more exposure as a charity.
I was apprehensive but excited for the event – the fact that the tide was right out necessitating a long cold walk to the water scared me because of my mobility and respiratory issues but the camaraderie of our team and everyone else involved just spurred me on. I felt on top of the world after completing the swim especially knowing the money raised would be put to such good use. It was a wonderful event, and we are all committed to doing the same again Boxing Day 2024.
