In Brain News, Patient story

When you are diagnosed with a brain tumour, it can be difficult to know where to turn. People may find themselves feeling isolated and not knowing who to talk to who can really understand.

At brainstrust, we have always promoted a sense of community for people living with a brain tumour diagnosis, whether this be through our events, Facebook group or sharing stories on our website. Speaking to and hearing from others going through a similar experience can have great value and impact to help people feel less alone and better connected.

Recently launched podcast ‘A better life Tumourow?’, aims to do exactly that- whilst also spreading the message of what life is like when you are diagnosed with a brain tumour. The voice behind the podcast is Izzy Bee, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2019.

Having spoken to people online on various Facebook support groups, Izzy Bee decided that there was a real opportunity for a podcast which would give people the space to share their stories and raise awareness of brain tumours and the impact they can have on people’s lives.

Each week, Izzy Bee will be speaking to people from all over the world, and already has a long list of people wanting to contribute to the podcast!

‘Being diagnosed with a brain tumour felt like a full stop on everything I knew, my social interactions, the activities I could take part in and the people who understood me. It was devastating and I had never felt loneliness like it. Then, I realised there were a lot of people just like me, and I realised we could all combine our voices and experiences in the hopes someone who is diagnosed with a tumour will find us, and not feel alone.’

You can listen to the podcast here: with new episodes released once a week.
