A group of friends from Wiltshire have raised more than £3,000 after taking on one of the most gruelling obstacle courses in the world.
Martin Price and three friends – Josh, Chris and Caroline – tackled the 12-mile Tough Mudder course in Las Vegas to raise funds for people with brain cancer. Martin decided to raise money for brainstrust to say thank you for supporting his friend, Judith Greenman, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year.
Although Martin has completed obstacle races and half marathons in the UK, this challenge was much tougher. “It was harder than the UK courses,” he said. “In England, they give you some help, providing bars to help you balance. In America, there was no help.”
As if the 12-mile obstacle course wasn’t tough enough, the mud, terrain and hot conditions really tested the group. “There was a lot of mud. It was wet, sticky clay, and because of the desert conditions we couldn’t wash it off. We had to carry on. It was great fun.”
The event was made even more special for Martin, because Judith and her daughter were there to cheer the group on. “brainstrust really helped Judith,” Martin said. “So I wanted to do something to raise awareness and money to help fund the charity’s work. I wanted to do something with the wow factor.”
