Melanie Langston and Julia Sparling, Ruth’s Sister and Mum, alongside her family and friends, took part in the Run of Dye colour run in Ipswitch in memory of her sister Ruth, who sadly passed away of a brain tumour in December.
Ruth’s battle with the tumour was particularly tragic. She passed away at just 34, after 11 months of intense treatment, which left her unable to see her beloved daughter Lydia’s first birthday. And, by Lydia’s second birthday Ruth had passed away.
brainstrust supported Ruth’s family through this devastating time and Mel wanted to do something so that other families living with the challenges of a brain tumour could receive the same amount of support.
“We had a ball at Run or Dye colour run and between 20 of us have raised this money for brainstrust. brainstrust and especially Helen was a huge help and support to me when we were on our tragic journey and I hope this money will help others too”
Together, Mel and the group raised an amazing £2,100 through the colour run which will help others feel less afraid and less alone in the face of diagnosis. And, the day was also a powerful tribute to Ruth.
“I can’t put into words what we have been through and how we feel. I felt such an inner warmth yesterday and Ruth was definitely there with us. We had an email the day before with a weather warning and the forecast was for heavy rain but the sun shone and the rain held off until we walked back to the car. She was looking after us”
