Roger from Caversham to run 166km and climb 9400m in under 2 days to remember brother in law.
Roger is running the Ultra Marathon du Mont Blanc in memory of his brother-in-law brother Matt Aspell who died from a brain tumour 4 months ago. Roger is raising money to support brainstrust, the charity that provided support and advice to Matt during his battle against the devastating disease.
The Ultra Marathon du Mont Blanc has been called the ‘race of all the superlatives’. With 166 km and 9,400 m of positive height gain to be completed in a maximum of 46 hours, the UTMB® is a complete tour of Mont-Blanc.
Of his adventure, Roger says, “The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc is a race that every runner wants to do once in their lifetime. The event will be a huge challenge for me. We’ll be running for nearly 2 days straight, at night, at altitude and over rough terrain. But I know this feat pales when you look at the battles that people with brain cancer are fighting everyday. I really hope people will see past supporting me in reaching my own personal goals for this event, and donate to the charity that did so much for Matt through his illness.”
