Back in 2019 I went to the doctors complaining of daily headaches. I was then prescribed high blood pressure tablets. My headaches did ease up a little. In June 2022 I got up at 3am to visit the bathroom, I felt really weird hot and cold and suffering abdominal pain. I then blacked out, fell and cut my head. Next day I went to A&E had stitches and they gave me an MRI scan, I was told a few hours later that I had a mass on my brain and they were worried about me. They then had to blue light me to Addenbrookes hospital as they were unsure how to deal with it at my local hospital.
It turned out that I had a rare brain tumour called a central Neurocytoma and hydrocephalus. Luckily my tumour is benign (but as they say benign is not fine). So I had a craniotomy in October 2022 and they removed about 75% of the tumour safely. I then had complications and had a shunt fitted to drain the fluid as it wouldn’t drain on its own. It was such a scary time, not knowing anything about brain tumours and I didn’t even know what hydrocephalus was until I was diagnosed with it. But I am so grateful to still be here and I’m a lucky one. I get to live again and every day you wake up is a good one. I do lots of fundraising for brain tumour research as I admire the work they do and I may need their help in the future. I am feeling ok now but recovery is a long journey, I have to have regular scans to make sure my tumour doesn’t grow or give me any problems , but I made it to my 50th birthday last year which is a blessing, and I will just carry on living as much of a normal life as I can. Positivity helped too.
