Gabriel’s story in his words;
A Life-Changing Diagnosis
In December 2023, during my GCSE year in Year 11, I received a diagnosis of a non malignant brain tumour. It was a challenging time balancing studies with my health and facing seizures nearly weekly, but luckily, I underwent surgery in Berlin in April 2024, and now I am tumour-free. The experience reshaped my perspective and motivated me to support others facing similar challenges.
Becoming a Bright Minds Youth Ambassador
After my diagnosis and recovery, I became a Bright Minds Youth Ambassador for brainstrust, a charity that supports people affected by brain tumours. This role allows me to raise awareness, share my experience, and contribute to initiatives that improve support for young people facing brain tumours.
Taking on Tough Mudder for brainstrust
To give back to the community that helped me, I signed up to and completed the 2025 Tough Mudder London West and raised an incredible £4,850 for brainstrust. This challenge was not just about physical endurance but also about resilience and determination—qualities I’ve had to develop through my own journey.
Getting My School Involved
I’m currently working with my school to organise initiatives that raise awareness about brain tumours and support brainstrust’s mission. I recently spoke at my school assembly, where I shared my personal journey and my role as a brainstrust Bright Minds Youth Ambassador. Other plans include fundraising events, more talks, and educational activities to ensure more students understand the impact of brain tumours and the importance of support networks.
