As with so many events over the last 18 months, we found ourselves in the position of having to postpone our Follow the Seagulls, 50 mile, 2 day charity challenge trek this spring, and so we were delighted to be able to welcome our walkers to our four locations in September. Many of whom had signed up over a year ago, but whose determination to make a difference hadn’t flagged.
We were joined by walkers from across the UK, who walked in bright sunshine and the pouring rain, and we are humbled to announce that this year our superheroes have raised over £48,970 which is incredible! This total could cover the cost of providing more than 970 coaching sessions with our dedicated team of Support Specialists. These sessions can help people to focus on what matters most to them, so they can live their best day, every day, and coaching is a key part of the individulised support brainstrust provides.
We send our walkers, their friends, families and colleagues a HUGE thank you for their hardwork, dedication and the support they have shown for the brain tumour community.
This year’s generous fundraising has taken the total raised by the Follow the Seagulls challenge, since it started in 2013, to a staggering £208,000. That’s the equivalent of funding the provision of 5,200 brain boxes, our tailormade tool kit provied free for those who have just receved a brain tumour diagnosis.
First walked in 2013 on the Isle of Wight, Follow the Seagulls has grown steadily into a four location challenge and now takes place in Dartmouth, Whitby (North Yorkshire), and Fife too. Usually organised so two walks take place each weekend, Follow the Seagulls is an unsupported trek and is no easy stroll in the countryside, but the reward is stunning scenery, great team spirit, and knowing that every step you take helps to provide vital support.
