brainstrust’s PRIME (Patient Research Involvement MovEment) bridges the gap between patients and brain tumour research. As we reflect on the past year, PRIME’s 2023 Impact Report shares our achievements, challenges, and a collective commitment to driving positive change in brain tumour research.
Driving Patient-Centric Research
At the heart of PRIME’s mission is the belief that patients and caregivers are experts in their own care. The Impact Report showcases PRIME’s dedication to empowering the community by offering opportunities for involvement in supporting ongoing research endeavours. With 137 individuals signed up for PRIME, including brain tumour patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and volunteers with personal experience, our community continues to grow.
Since its inception, PRIME has played a pivotal role in securing over £28 million in funding for brain tumour trials, aiming to redefine standards of care. In 2023 alone, PRIME supported more than 30 unique research projects, ranging from multinational drug trials to quality-of-life interventions. By championing patient-centred outcomes and enhancing visibility at national and international conferences, PRIME continues to elevate the profile of brain tumour research.
Reflection and Next Steps
As PRIME enters its fourth year, we remain committed to evolving our goals and expanding our impact. We celebrate achievements, such as incredible sum we have helped attract to brain tumour research, and that PRIME is the voice of the patient community at the Brain Tumour Research Novel Therapeutics Accelerator (BTR-NTA). We also acknowledges areas for growth. Goals for 2024 include live updates to the research library, expanding the PRIME community, and ensuring ongoing and meaningful involvement of all research partners.
PRIME’s journey is characterised by collaboration, and a commitment to improving outcomes for those affected by brain tumours. As we embark on the next chapter, PRIME, in partnership with Brain Tumour Research, looks ahead to an even more ambitious and empowering 2024. Together, we strive to drive meaningful change in brain tumour research and care.
