In memory of her brother, Shaun Skinner, founder of our Wear Grey campaign, our incredible supporter Bev Dickens, took on a daring wing walk challenge and has so far raised over £1,000 for brainstrust. This heartfelt fundraiser is a powerful tribute to Shaun’s legacy and a wonderful example of turning personal inspiration into meaningful support for others affected by brain tumours.
In Bev’s own words;
“Doing a wing walk is something I have always wanted to do & so when I had it gifted me as a birthday present, I thought I would do some fundraising too. I wanted to raise funds for brainstrust as my brother Shaun Skinner was part of the team before he passed away from his brain tumour. I wanted to help in any way I could & I know funding is something needed.
I was nervous but excited too on the day, I had no expectations or no idea how it would go so a bit apprehensive too, but it was such an amazing experience. I have done skydives in the past, but this was something totally different. A surreal experience being stood on top of an aeroplane whilst it is flying, lots of people thought I was crazy, but it was nothing compared to what my brother & so many people have to go through who have brain tumours.
If anyone else is thinking of doing something crazy like this then I would say to just go for it, it won’t disappoint, it’s not something you do every day & sometimes it’s good to challenge yourself & maybe have some fun at the same time.“
Bev’s courage, generosity and determination are truly inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful for her support. Every pound raised helps brainstrust continue providing personalised support, trusted resources and a sense of community to people affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.
Thank you, Bev, for honouring Shaun’s memory in such an extraordinary way and for helping ensure that nobody faces a brain tumour diagnosis alone.
