SUMMARY:Living With A Low Grade Glioma – online meetup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an honest and supportive session where we’ll talk about what it’s really like to live with a LGG diagnosis. \n\n\n\n\nLiving with a low grade glioma isn’t straightforward and brings about its own challenges. Not only do you have to live with the symptoms that these tumours can bring (epilepsy has a high prevalence rate) but also the uncertain trajectory of a low grade glioma. \nBy low grade we mean grade 2 tumours\, and those that are transforming to a grade 3. \nJoin us to hear how we all manage the uncertainty of living with a LGG diagnosis. Feel less alone\, better resourced and more able to cope. \n\nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:Brainstrust Bereavement Community – online meetup
DESCRIPTION:We know that a death caused by a brain tumour is different. You don’t have to carry this alone. \n\n\n\n\nGrief after losing someone to a glioblastoma can feel different from other kinds of loss. The changes along the way\, and the journey from diagnosis onwards\, often shape the experience of grief in deeply personal and complex ways — with grief sometimes beginning long before a loved one dies. \nWhether your bereavement is recent or from some time ago\, you are very welcome here. You don’t have to carry this alone. \nThis group will be hosted by Carol and Lowri. It is a safe space to just come and be. \n\n\n  \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:Certainty In Diagnosis After Stereotactic Radiosurgery For Brain Metastases Patients - online focus group
DESCRIPTION:brainstrust are delivering two focus groups (Thursday 11 June and Tuesday 16 June) in partnership with researchers Dr Steffi Thust and Dr Cally Rick as part of an NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) funded research study. \n  \nBackground\n\n \nFor many people living with brain metastases\, the time after radiotherapy can bring uncertainty. Changes seen on scans may be caused by the return of cancer or by a treatment side effect called radiation necrosis (RN)\, and telling the difference is often difficult. This uncertainty can last for months and can be deeply stressful for both individuals and families.\nThis online focus group will explore personal experiences of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and the period afterwards. Researchers would particularly like to hear from people who experienced radiation necrosis\, suspected recurrence\, or uncertainty following treatment.  \n  \nWho can get involved?\n\n \nPeople with brain mets who have received stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) – the research team would particularly like to hear from people who have experienced radiation necrosis or recurrence following SRS.\n \n  \nWhat will happen in the focus group? \n  \nThe 90 minute discussion will focus on the information you and other brain mets patients were given before and after treatment\, experiences of symptoms and follow-up care\, and how medical teams can better support people during periods of uncertainty. \nFeedback from the workshop will help shape research aiming to improve how doctors distinguish between treatment effects and cancer recurrence more quickly and accurately. \n  \nThis will be a small\, supportive online conversation and every experience shared will help researchers better understand what matters most to people going through this. \n  \n  \nPlease note\, the content of both focus groups on Thursday 11 June and Tuesday 16 June will be the same\, and therefore you need only sign up for one of them. \n  \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

Inspired by her own recovery\, she retrained in Pilates and is now a Level 3 qualified instructor. She later went on to specialise in Neuro Pilates through APPI\, focusing on a gentle\, rehabilitative approach designed to support individuals with neurological conditions in improving balance\, coordination\, and overall movement quality. Sammy is also a passionate motivational speaker and writer\, sharing powerful insights on resilience and recovery.

SUMMARY:Help shape research on brain tumours\, epilepsy and quality of life - online focus group
DESCRIPTION:Background \nPeople with brain tumours often experience epilepsy\, and seizures can have a major impact on quality of life\, affecting independence\, employment\, sleep and everyday activities. While differences in cancer outcomes have been linked to social deprivation\, less is known about whether seizure control and quality of life outcomes also vary according to people’s circumstances and access to healthcare. \nA team of neurosurgeons\, epilepsy specialists\, cancer researchers and public health experts are developing a study to investigate these questions. Using anonymised healthcare data from Wales\, the researchers will examine seizure and quality of life outcomes in people with brain tumour-related epilepsy and compare findings with similar patient groups in the Netherlands to identify opportunities for improving care. \nWho can get involved? \nPeople with lived experience of brain tumours and/or tumour-related epilepsy\, including as a caregiver or loved one. Although the study will use healthcare data from Wales\, input is welcomed from anyone affected by a brain tumour and epilepsy\, regardless of where they live. \nWhat will you do? \nJoin a 90 minute discussion group with brainstrust and lead researcher Dr Harsh Bhatt and share your views on the proposed research to help ensure it focuses on the issues that matter most to people affected by brain tumours and epilepsy. Feedback will help the researchers understand which outcomes are most important and ensure the study is relevant\, meaningful and grounded in real-life experiences. \nThis will be a small\, informal online discussion\, and no research experience or specialist knowledge is needed. \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:Managing Scanxiety with Neuroscience Informed Hypnotherapy - online session
DESCRIPTION:Explore the neuroscience behind feelings of anticipation and uncertainty and find practical techniques that can help interrupt the cycle. \nFor many people living with a brain tumour\, the period before scans or results can be one of the most emotionally demanding parts of the journey. This experience is often referred to as ‘scanxiety’. \n‘Scanxiety’ reflects the way the brain responds to anticipation and uncertainty. When the brain predicts potential threat\, attention can become locked onto worry\, sleep may be disrupted and the body may remain in a heightened state of alert. \nThis session explores the neuroscience behind these responses and introduces practical techniques that can help interrupt the cycle. \nUsing guided hypnosis\, breathwork and simple psycho sensory techniques\, participants learn how to redirect attention\, ease stress responses and create more mental space during the waiting period. \nThe aim is to provide gentle\, practical tools that support steadiness during the emotional ups and downs that often accompany ongoing medical monitoring.  \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket. \n  \nProgramme Participation \nThis workshop is primarily designed for new attendees who would like to learn the core skills of the programme. Previous participants are very welcome to revisit the workshop as a refresher\, and many find returning once a quarter helpful for reinforcing their learning. Weekly Reset sessions run every week and all participants are welcome to attend these regularly – please contact hello@brainstrust.org.uk for more details. Participants may also join the ‘Hypnotherapy for Calmness and Confidence Through Processes’ and ‘A Dose of Neuroscience’ sessions whenever they wish. \n  \nAbout Louise Baker \nLouise Baker MSc is an applied neuroscientist and hypnotherapist specialising in the neuroscience of stress\, attention and emotional regulation. She holds an MSc in Neuroscience and the Psychology of Mental Health from King’s College London and works with brainstrust supporting individuals and carers living with brain tumours.
