SUMMARY:Neuroscience Informed Hypnotherapy - online session
DESCRIPTION:Living with a brain tumour\, or supporting someone who is\, can place the brain under sustained pressure. Waiting for results\, navigating treatment decisions and managing uncertainty can trigger cycles of stress\, worry and mental overload. \nThis introductory session explains how hypnosis works through the lens of modern neuroscience. We explore how the brain continually adapts to experience through neuroplasticity and how stress\, anticipation and uncertainty influence attention\, perception and emotional responses. \nParticipants are introduced to practical techniques that combine hypnosis with psycho sensory skills such as breath patterns\, gentle touch and bilateral stimulation. These approaches help the brain move away from persistent threat responses and towards a more flexible and supportive state of thinking. \nThe aim of the session is not simply relaxation\, but understanding how the brain works and learning simple tools that can help manage stress\, support sleep and restore a sense of steadiness during challenging times. \nProgramme Participation \nThis workshop is primarily designed for new attendees who would like to learn the core skills of the programme. Previous participants are very welcome to revisit the workshop as a refresher\, and many find returning once a quarter helpful for reinforcing their learning. Weekly Reset sessions run every week and all participants are welcome to attend these regularly – please contact hello@brainstrust.org.uk for more details. Participants may also join the ‘Hypnotherapy for Calmness and Confidence Through Processes’ and ‘A Dose of Neuroscience’ sessions whenever they wish. \nAbout Louise Baker \nLouise Baker MSc is an applied neuroscientist and hypnotherapist specialising in the neuroscience of stress\, attention and emotional regulation. She holds an MSc in Neuroscience and the Psychology of Mental Health from King’s College London and works with brainstrust supporting individuals and carers living with brain tumours.

SUMMARY:Writing from Life Experience - online workshop
DESCRIPTION:At school\, we’re often taught we should write “about what we know”. From life experience. That can be tough\, especially if it involves us writing about something challenging. In this workshop\, we will consider what in our personal experience can we draw on\, perhaps even take inspiration from\, as we look to write or tell stories. \nThis workshop is led by Andrew Kauffmann. \nAbout Andrew Kauffmann \nAndrew Kauffmann is a coach and a tutor of therapeutic writing. The Centre for Mental Health’s 2024 Writer in Residence\, he has lived with a health condition for over 20 years. A kidney donor\, and a campaigner with extensive experience working for health and care charities such as Age UK\, Macmillan Cancer Support and Royal National Institute of Blind People\, he has recently run writing workshops for members of Carers UK\, Renal Arts Group and Kidney Care UK. He delivers writing workshops for members of brainstrust\, a UK based brain tumour charity. \nElsewhere\, he’s led workshops on writing challenging material for The Literary Consultancy and The Write Salon. He has completed a CPD-accredited introduction to Therapeutic and Reflective Writing with The Professional Writing Academy\, and undergone training with the Institute for Narrative Therapy on turning life events into stories. A coach who focuses on stories as a tool to support individuals undergoing life transitions\, Andrew is undertaking an MA in Creative Writing and Wellbeing at Teesside University. \n  \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:Art Time: A Space to Express\, Connect and Belong – online meetup
DESCRIPTION:Join our September session – a gentle space for brain tumour patients and caregivers to express\, connect\, and belong through art. \n\n\n\n\nCome and join us for Art Time – whether you’re a seasoned artist or a complete novice\, this is a gentle two-hour session to explore how painting can become a mindful\, soothing activity. As you focus on the creative process\, you may find stresses and worries begin to fade into the background. \nGrab your art materials – pencils\, paints\, or anything else – and experience how creativity can support wellbeing when living with a brain tumour. \nOur workshop is led by Maddy James\, a qualified tutor and self-taught artist who lives in Cowes on the beautiful Isle of Wight. For the past four years\, Maddy has been teaching art from her studio\, and more recently\, via Zoom. Her approach is not formulaic – you won’t be told to draw a line here and a circle there. Instead\, Maddy gently guides you to discover your own style\, while simply enjoying the process of being creative. \nWhat people say about Art Time… \n“After the class I feel I have achieved something that day and I feel good in myself. It’s handy we can do it on Zoom too. I enjoy showing my family what I’ve created each time. I’m pleased I’m being proactive in finding solutions to assist my rehabilitation and long-term recovery.” \n“When brainstrust set up the Art Group\, I just had to join in! It’s great to get together with people who understand. There’s no pressure\, no expectation\, and no judgement – we’re just free to relax and paint. Maddy guides us through the session’s activities\, we all have a go\, we chat\, we laugh – and we all finish with a painting at the end.” \n“Maddy teaches us in a way that makes it fun – the time passes so quickly. Joining this group has given me something to look forward to each month. Because of my disabilities\, I wouldn’t have been able to attend an in-person class\, so I’m very grateful brainstrust offers these sessions via Zoom.” \n“I think it’s a great thing to promote these sessions – I’ve found them so helpful in boosting my wellbeing.” \n“I’ve never attended an art class before\, so by joining this Zoom class\, I’m gaining new skills. I find the sessions rewarding\, and I’m always surprised to think\, ‘Wow – did I actually produce that?!’ The discussion during the class gives us a chance to chit-chat with people facing similar challenges in life.” \nThis session is open to both brain tumour patients and caregivers. \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:Living With A Low Grade Glioma – online meetup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an honest and supportive session where we’ll talk about what it’s really like to live with a LGG diagnosis. \n\n\n\n\nLiving with a low grade glioma isn’t straightforward and brings about its own challenges. Not only do you have to live with the symptoms that these tumours can bring (epilepsy has a high prevalence rate) but also the uncertain trajectory of a low grade glioma. \nBy low grade we mean grade 2 tumours\, and those that are transforming to a grade 3. \nJoin us to hear how we all manage the uncertainty of living with a LGG diagnosis. Feel less alone\, better resourced and more able to cope. \n\nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:High Grade Brain Tumour Community – online meetup
DESCRIPTION:Living with a high grade (grade 3 or 4) brain tumour can feel isolating. This online group offers a supportive space to those who understand. \n\n\n\n\nThis informal online group is for people living with a high grade (grade 3 or 4) brain tumour diagnosis – and their supporters. \nThere’s no set agenda and no pressure to talk. Just join us for a relaxed space to connect with others who truly understand what you’re going through. Whether you feel like sharing or simply listening\, you’re welcome. \nWe understand that tumour classification can be confusing. Tumours change over time\, and recurrence can bring new challenges. Even non-malignant tumours can be life-altering. Following the World Health Organisation’s reclassification of brain tumours\, we’ve renamed our groups to better reflect the needs of our community. \nIf you’re living with a grade 3 or 4 diagnosis\, this group is for you. And if you’re not sure where you fit – please ask. We’re here to help. \n\nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and Meeting ID with your ticket.

SUMMARY:Managing Scanxiety with Neuroscience Informed Hypnotherapy - online session
DESCRIPTION:Explore the neuroscience behind feelings of anticipation and uncertainty and find practical techniques that can help interrupt the cycle. \nFor many people living with a brain tumour\, the period before scans or results can be one of the most emotionally demanding parts of the journey. This experience is often referred to as ‘scanxiety’. \n‘Scanxiety’ reflects the way the brain responds to anticipation and uncertainty. When the brain predicts potential threat\, attention can become locked onto worry\, sleep may be disrupted and the body may remain in a heightened state of alert. \nThis session explores the neuroscience behind these responses and introduces practical techniques that can help interrupt the cycle. \nUsing guided hypnosis\, breathwork and simple psycho sensory techniques\, participants learn how to redirect attention\, ease stress responses and create more mental space during the waiting period. \nThe aim is to provide gentle\, practical tools that support steadiness during the emotional ups and downs that often accompany ongoing medical monitoring. SUMMARY:Brainstrust Bereavement Community – online meetup
DESCRIPTION:We know that a death caused by a brain tumour is different. You don’t have to carry this alone. \n\n\n\n\nGrief after losing someone to a brain tumour can feel different from other kinds of loss. The changes along the way\, and the journey from diagnosis onwards\, often shape the experience of grief in deeply personal and complex ways — with grief sometimes beginning long before a loved one dies. \nWhether your bereavement is recent or from some time ago\, you are very welcome here. You don’t have to carry this alone. \nThis group will be hosted by Carol and Lowri. It is a safe space to just come and be. \n\n\n  \nPlease be advised this meetup will be held via Zoom.
