Royal Parks Half Marathon, 10 October 2010

The runners and the spectators were very lucky to have a wonderfully sunny day for the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Our 22 runners wore bright yellow specially made shirts to distinguish them from the other 12,000 runners and thereby encouraged the spectators’ support. All our runners completed the course and Kate (George’s wife) was first home of our competitors in 1 hour 41 minutes – a splendid effort.

Afterwards we had a very happy lunch with the runners, their families and supporters in a restaurant at the Royal Albert Hall (about 100 all told) and it rounded off the day with good cheer.

We are so grateful for the terrific response we received from so many friends, family and work colleagues, and are delighted to say that with the assistance of Gift Aid the monies received to date already exceed £110,000.

Meetings have been held with the brainstrust team, the Brain Tumour Research Campaign and Imperial College (based at Charing Cross Hospital) to ensure that we make optimum use of the monies that you so generously contributed.

A job description has been prepared for a research fellow who will be part of a three to four year programme of coordinated research into brain tumours. brainstrust, BTRC and members of George’s family will monitor recruitment and report on progress as it happens.

Thanks again for your ongoing support of The George Pickard Fellowship. However, we’re not stopping here and have plenty planned for 2011 including:

- A sponsored sky dive by George’s nephew Alistair
- A trans-Pennine coast to coast cycle ride by Sam Small in May
